The Horse in Sport

Events, racing, rodeo, shows and competitions make equestrian sports the third largest spectator sport in America. American Horse Council reports horses in the United States are a $25.3 billion a year industry with 6.9 million horses and 7.1 million participants. AHC notes Americans spend $4.6 billion per year on horse related goods (above the cost of a horse) and another $4.6 billion on horse related services (boarding, training etc.). In terms of US employment, the horse industry directly employs more people than railroads, radio and television broadcasting, petroleum and coal products manufacturing and tobacco product manufacturing. World wide, the Pony Club is in 20 countries with over 100,000 members. We knew that, didn't we?
